Ducati Desmo250 MX shines with impressive debut performance

Alessandro Lupino secures third place in the Italian Prestige MX2 Championship

The world of motocross has been buzzing with excitement following the debut of the Ducati Desmo250 MX. This brand-new bike from the renowned Borgo Panigale company made its first appearance at the Italian Prestige MX2 Championship, and it did not disappoint. With a strong performance from the talented Alessandro Lupino, the Desmo250 MX secured a commendable third place, showcasing its competitiveness and reliability right from the start.

Alessandro Lupino’s remarkable comeback

Alessandro Lupino, the reigning Italian MX1 Champion, faced a challenging return to the 250cc class after a decade-long hiatus. Despite battling a painful wrist injury, Lupino’s determination shone through as he navigated the treacherous sands of Ottobiano. His experience and skill were evident as he quickly adapted to the new bike, finishing first in his group during official practice and recording the fastest time in the timed session. This impressive performance earned him a favorable gate pick for the races.

Race day highlights

Race day brought its own set of challenges, but Lupino was ready to tackle them head-on. Starting just outside the top five, he quickly moved up the ranks, reaching fourth place within the first lap. His relentless pursuit of excellence saw him climb to third, where he maintained a strong pace, closing in on the second-place rider. However, a collision with a rival sent him crashing down, resulting in a damaged bike and a sore wrist. Despite this setback, Lupino’s resilience shone through as he crossed the finish line in tenth place.

A triumphant second moto

The second moto proved to be a different story for Lupino and the Desmo250 MX. Starting fifth, he found his rhythm and surged to second place within just three laps. His confidence and skill were on full display as he expertly maneuvered the bike, ultimately securing a well-deserved third-place finish. This result not only marked a significant achievement for Lupino but also highlighted the potential of the Ducati Desmo250 MX in the competitive world of motocross.

After the first round of the championship, Lupino stands third in the overall standings with 290 points. The next round will take place at the Mantova circuit, a venue where Lupino previously debuted the Desmo450 MX. With the momentum from this successful outing, the Ducati team is eager to build on this foundation and continue pushing the limits of performance.

Reflecting on the race, Lupino expressed his satisfaction, stating, “I’m happy once again, we did a great job, and I have to congratulate the team at Ducati, who performed a miracle. The Desmo250 MX has only been running for three weeks, and today we came for a test day. However, if I hadn’t been taken out, we could have secured two second-place finishes. As a rider, I’m pleasantly surprised to have made it onto the podium and to already have such a competitive bike on our first outing.”
