FIA unveils a new global esports competition
The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) has taken a significant step towards promoting inclusivity in motorsports with the announcement of a groundbreaking global esports competition aimed at discovering the world’s best female racing talent. In partnership with leading sim racing platform iRacing and professional SIM racing installation provider Advanced Simracing, this competition opens doors for women aged 16 and above, regardless of their motorsport background or geographical location.
How the competition works
Participants will enter the competition through an online qualification round, where their lap times will be recorded. The top ten performers will earn the chance to compete in an exciting multi-day final event scheduled during the 2025 FIA Extraordinary General Assemblies Week in Macau. This event not only promises thrilling racing but also offers finalists invaluable insights into the motorsport industry through media training workshops and exclusive networking opportunities.
Voices behind the initiative
Burcu Çetinkaya, the Chair of the FIA Women in Motorsport Commission, expressed her enthusiasm for the initiative: “The FIA is committed to doubling motorsport participation and creating more opportunities for women and girls. Esports allow us to reach a broader, younger audience, particularly those with untapped talent or limited access to traditional motorsport paths. I eagerly anticipate meeting our finalists—and recognizing our winner—in Macau.”
The growing importance of esports in motorsport
Esports have become an integral component of the FIA’s grassroots development program. In a move to formalize this growing discipline, the FIA added an Esports Appendix (Appendix E) to the International Sporting Code, which empowers National Sporting Authorities (ASNs) to oversee both national and international competitions. Last year, the FIA welcomed a record 117 esports participants at the FIA Motorsport Games, showcasing the rising popularity and engagement in this digital racing arena.
Encouraging female participation in esports
Niroshan Pereira, President of the FIA Esports Commission, emphasized the importance of female representation in the esports racing community: “We recognize that esports is the future. However, for the discipline to flourish, we need to encourage more girls and women to participate. We hope that this competition will serve as a catalyst, inspiring aspiring racers to explore this field and consider a career in motorsport.”

The online qualification round is currently open, giving aspiring female drivers the opportunity to set their fastest lap times until May 6 at 00:00 GMT.
