Paraguay gears up for its first World Rally Championship event

The inaugural World Rally Championship round in Paraguay promises thrilling competition and scenic routes.

Paraguay’s historic WRC debut

In an exhilarating development for motorsport enthusiasts, Paraguay is set to host its first-ever round of the World Rally Championship (WRC) from August 28 to 31, 2025. This landmark event marks a significant milestone for the South American nation, which has been striving to make its mark on the global rally scene. The excitement is palpable as local drivers, including WRC2 and Junior WRC stars Fabrizio Zaldivar and Diego Dominguez, have paved the way for this momentous occasion.

Route details and competitive stages

The rally will be based in the vibrant city of Encarnacion, located in the southeastern part of Paraguay, right on the border with Argentina. Competitors will face a challenging total of 951.59 kilometers, with 334.52 kilometers dedicated to competitive stages spread across 19 thrilling tests. The longest leg of the rally will take place on Friday, featuring an impressive 140.90 kilometers of competitive racing, including two runs of the rally’s longest stage, Yerbatera, which stretches 30 kilometers.

As the rally unfolds, Saturday will see participants delve deeper into Paraguay’s picturesque interior, tackling 113.60 kilometers of stages before concluding with four more tests on Sunday. This carefully crafted itinerary promises to showcase the stunning landscapes and diverse terrains that Paraguay has to offer, making it a unique addition to the WRC calendar.

Preparations and expectations

The anticipation surrounding this event has been building since a successful test event held last September, which was attended by representatives from the WRC, major teams, and tire suppliers. WRC event director Simon Larkin expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “We know this event will provide a unique new story to the WRC.” This sentiment resonates with fans and participants alike, as they look forward to the thrilling competition and the chance to witness history in the making.

Paraguay’s entry into the WRC is part of a broader expansion strategy, with three new rounds joining the championship this year. Alongside the upcoming event in the Canary Islands and the highly anticipated finale in Saudi Arabia, Paraguay’s rally promises to be a highlight of the season. As the excitement builds, motorsport fans around the world eagerly await the chance to see how this vibrant nation will shine on the international stage.
